Video Games to Look Out For: October-December 2014

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us: video game release season! There are so many new games to look out for this upcoming season, and it's really up to you to decide what you're going to actually invest in. Sometimes there comes a point where we gamers have to say "Okay. I've spent hundreds of dollars and hours on this series and the only thing different in each game is the graphics." Yet sometimes, when a game series has a special place in our heart, our bank account looses another 59.99 each new release... From Super Smash Bros, to Call of Duty, and SO MUCH MORE, hear what I have to say about this season's highly anticipated games.

Super Smash Bros for 3DS
Release date: 10/3/2014
Super Smash Bros and various other Nintendo games have captivated every gamers heart since childhood. No matter how great the 90's version of the games are, most of us keep on buying the newer versions for the Wii or DS. Quite frankly, they aren't even that different, other than the graphics. So why are we all anxiously awaiting the new Super Smash Bros release? Well, because such a game is not released everyday! Call of Duty games seem to be released yearly, but this is not the case. Not only that, but this game is such a classic. You can play it really anywhere, and it's exciting you can take it on the go. You can battle your friends online as well, which makes it even more awesome! Many new characters were added. You can be an Animal Crossing villager or even a Wii Fit trainer. I don't even care about graphics while playing video games, but this, well...THE GRAPHICS ARE BEAUTIFUL. I feel like I just want to have this in my 3DS case. The current retail price is 39.99 and I don't expect it to go down anytime soon. If you want this game, preorder it! Why waste time not playing this game?

Assassin's Creed Unity for PS4

Release date: 11/11/2014
I know there has been a lot of controversy facing UbiSoft, but that's not gonna stop there game from selling. Sorry, everybody. I've always been quite fond of the Assassin's Creed games. They give you a peek into history. Honestly, I remember in high school, my APUSH teacher and I would discuss history based on the Assassin's Creed games. Pretty awesome. This specific game focuses on the French Revolution and I'm interested to see their take on it. Unity, rather than one man against the world. You get to customize your own assassin, which makes it more of a RPG game in a sense. When you get to customize your character, everything seems a bit more real. The product details say that you will get to "embark on ancestral missions, treasure hunts, murder mysteries, contracts and more." If you've loved the Assassin's Creed games before, you'll love this. If you never played them before, I recommend playing the first one and then jumping to this. Regardless, this is making my "must-play" list.

Fantasy Life for 3DS
Release date: 12/31/2014
This game is Animal Crossing and Runescape combined into one. But is that a good thing? Will it be entertaining? I really can't say until I play it. The description of the game caught my eye, stating "Embark on the adventure of your dream life as your craft, cast, fish, mine, battle and explore like never before. With the innovative Life system, your choices don't just upgrade characters - they help shape your journey. Explore a huge fantasy landscape beside surly dark paladins, slick pirate captains, regal princesses and others who share your taste for the unknown." Sounds promising to me. Then I saw the screenshots that changed everything. The game is highly saturated and colorful, with Mii-like characters. Not that I don't like that aesthetic, it's just different, I suppose. Runescape is my favorite RPG game and you do things like fish, mine and battle. Yet it's a bit darker, more realistic. Yet at the same time, this is a NINTENDO 3DS game. I should expect Mii-like characters and high saturation. I really wanna try it out but I don't think I'm gonna be purchasing this one.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare for PS4
Release date: 11/3/2014
I'm not doubting the game is of good quality, but come on. Call of Duty releases a new game every year strictly for money. There's no creativity in it anymore. The original COD generation (most of them) can barely find the time to play anymore. I've played all Call of Duty games and to be honest, I think it started going downhill after Modern Warfare 2. Black Ops zombies and I have a lot of memories, but the campaign wasn't anything compared to MW2. COD games are always released with the retail price of 59.99, and before you know it, it drops and the next one is released. If a friend of mine is playing it, I won't hesitate to join. But I also know for a fact I won't be spending money on this game.

Pokemon Omega Ruby for 3DS
Release date: 12/31/2014
Some people love Pokemon to death and are just ecstatic that this is coming out. "Ruby was my favorite! I can't wait!" I love Pokemon a lot and my boyfriend Andrew loves Pokemon 10x more than I do. However, we are both not purchasing it. Pokemon is an ICONIC video game. It's the Harry Potter of the gaming world, to be quite honest with you. It's never gonna die and there's always going to be huge fans. Yet I can't bring myself to buy it. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the older generation of Pokemon, and maybe you think that's pathetic. I just don't think it's worth it unless you live for Pokemon.

Just Dance 2015 for Xbox One
Release date: 10/21/2014
I don't care if you dance like it's your career or if you despise dance, you have to have a copy of Just Dance in your household. It's just a fun game to have. For parties, small hangouts, or just one of those nights in with your family. But I don't think this is the copy you want to own. Just Dance unfortunately picks really bad tracks for all of their games. There's usually 1-2 good tracks per game, to be quite honest with you. Burn by Ellie Goulding, Summer by Calvin Harris, and Happy by Pharrell is among the few. There were so many better mainstream dance songs this year, but hey, that's fine. I recommend saving 10-40 bucks by buying an older version. Do yourself a favor.
