Last Words

Imagine being on your deathbed. What would you say? What would you finally realize after many years of living? We go through our life, troubled by things that do not matter. Then in our last hours, we realize the truth. We confess our darkest secrets. We say goodbye to the ones we love. Here are some famous last words from people. We can all learn something from these people.

That is a perspective on human life and our culture that is well worth pondering." -Carl Sagan
  • "You have given me the greatest possible happiness. You have been in every way all that anyone could be. I don't think two people could have been happier 'til this terrible disease came. I can't fight any longer. I know that I am spoiling your life, that without me you could work. And you will I know. You see, I can't even write this properly. I can't read. What i want to say is I owe all the happiness of my life to you. You have been entirely patient with me and incredibly good. I want to say that - everybody knows it. If anyone could have saved me it would have been you. Everything has gone from me but the certainty of your goodness. I can't go on spoiling your life any longer. How did reading all of that make you feel? I just had to type them and I felt very sad, a tear came to my eye. We go through our whole life knowing that death could take us at any second, and when it does, we are still so shocked. Although it make be hard to take all of this in, the lesson to be learnt is to live in the present happily and fearlessly. To cherish those you love. Eat, drink, be merry. Do not deny yourself the pleasures of life because they will be gone one day. We don't know what will come next. It may be nothing, it may be everything. But now, we have every opportunity to be happy and enjoy life. So do it. Carpe diem.
